Almost all Enterprise disorders and opportunities are linked to multiple functional areas. Unfortunately, no one seems to have the insight. No one is aware of Enterprise Anatomy. If you meet Sales team, they would feel its Manufacturing problem, and if you meet Manufacturing team, they will point it to Engineering, and it goes on. Very few Enterprise professionals can comprehend multi-disciplinary approach to handling Enterprise issues.
A quick look at the evolution of medical profession will let you know that the key driver was to increase longevity (life span) of humans. Today, life span of average Enterprise is 10-12 years and the large ones (including Fortune lists) is around 45-50 years.
The Enterprise anatomy consists of many interacting systems such as Sales, Engineering, Production, Marketing, Support, IT, etc. Each system (department) contributes to the functioning of the Enterprise. Each of the department consists of strategies, processes, technologies, etc. which are collections of six variables (data, function, location, role, time, motivation).
The idea is inspired by medical practice, wherein a medical doctor, who understands the human anatomy, uses the symptoms (narrated by a patient) to understand the problem and narrow it down to specific organ/organs, then applies x-ray techniques to get the necessary insight and uses the x-ray for diagnosis before arriving at possible solution options.
