Last month, while meeting C-Level executives who are pursuing multiple initiatives to reinforce their business competitiveness, it was pretty evident that they are betting big money on new initiatives without knowing anything about the anatomy of company beforehand. Each one had their share of issues and problems at hand.  Here, is a quick look at the key points from three Chief Operating Officers (COOs). One from a leading bank in the Middle East, another one from a global leading remittance and bill payment service provider and third one from a Doctor who is managing operations of chain of 20 hospitals specialized in cancer treatment...

You might not be aware but your enterprise has an Enterprise Architecture, so you better start cashing in on its benefits. It would be a big waste not to because every day time and effort is spent on your Enterprise Architecture. And there is no way to stop this, EA is not an option, it is a necessity. When I look at the things I do, like doing small jobs in my garage or preparing a meal, I follow a certain pattern. Somehow I transformed random activities into fixed patterns. Not because I had to, not because I needed to cooperate...

I would like to share my takeaways from the workshop, following Krish's blog post. As you can see from the accompanying photo, this hands-on workshop was held in a compact and cosy room which makes it even more interactive.  Consequently, there was constant exchange of thoughts, questions and answers between everyone in the room, instructors and students alike. A few such exchanges are worth sharing with the wider audience of architects in this forum. It seems like a monumental effort to attempt to populate an enterprise anatomy, given that it represents the ontology of the holistic enterprise.  While this effort cannot to be under-estimated, it was generally...

Mr. Middleman is a Senior Business Architect for a Telecommunications Company. His company has many Small to Medium Customers. The most simplistic definition of Enterprise Architecture by John Zachman is related to "Reification" i.e. translating an idea to realization. An Enterprise Architect should be able to transform an idea to operation (realization). Typically, the journey of an "idea" to "realization" goes via six stages of transformation. These are Strategy models, Process Models, System Models, Technology Models, Implementation and Operation models. Unknowingly most Entrepreneurs apply these stages of transformation in realizing their ideas to customer-centric products and services. Since, these transformation ( idea to realization) is so natural, you will often find them creating new products and services. This becomes basis...
