Digital Architecture Governance
Project Title
Reference Architecture Templates
Project Description
The pace of change of digital technology and the demands for new digital capability pose challenges that traditional architectural design and governance practices struggle to address. While delivery resources can be scaled through engagements with third party vendors and contractors, scaling architecture by adding more architects very quickly leads to diminishing returns, usually increasing rather than decreasing complexity and leading to a proliferation of technologies and design patterns. Within Vector this problem of complexity has been exacerbated by growth through acquisition, resulting in high costs to operate disparate technology platforms across multiple locations in New Zealand and Australia. To combat this, Vector Digital launched an initiative to develop a framework, governance mechanism and toolset to enable and enforce the use of executable templates to define our infrastructure, software and support patterns. We call these Reference Architecture Templates.
